Outside Providence by Original Soundtrack - Compilation producers: Peter Afterman, Jeff Aldrich, Larry Jacobson. The soundtrack for the Farrelly Brothers' semi-autobiographical tale of growing up in Rhode Island during the '70s is chock-full of the requisite FM standards of the time along with a few obscure nuggets. Alongside anthems by the Who ("Won't Get Fooled Again"), Lynyrd Skynyrd ("Free Bird"), Free ("All Right Now") and Yes ("Roundabout") are the country-rock of The Eagles ("Take it Easy") and the boho-pop of Steely Dan ("Do it Again"). The songs that make this soundtrack a keeper represent an interesting cross-section of music. They include Lee Michaels' ("Do You Know What I Mean,") an organ-driven blue-eyed soulfest that sounds like Billy Joel in full Ray Charles mode; Ten Years After's sweeping ode of optimism, "I'd Love to Change the World"; and Badfinger's paean to fidelity, "No Matter What."
